I can't believe this site is pretty much done. This time last year I barely knew HTML and hadn't the slightest idea how CGI or Perl worked. Now my to-do list is almost completely scratched off.
I'm kinda proud of myself for learning from the ground up how to program a dynamically generated website. The random images, the journal entries, the photo pages... all of them generated by cgi scripts. Even more fun was building all the administration stuff... totally customized scripts for posting entries, uploading photos, running a mailing list. I learned it all. Hooray for me.
I keep finding little bugs that need to be fixed, but all the big stuff is done. It's all just in time for the big launch on July 23. That'll mark 100 days till my planned departure. Although, wouldn't it be cool to wait another 20 days... and call the launch "Around the World in 80 Days." I'll have to have an event at work for the 80 day mark.
By the way, I've laid around the house all day today. I tweaked my lower back this morning and have been in pain all day. I've done the heating pad and a few handsfull of aspirin and I'm feeling a little better. Maybe I'll be able to go run tomorrow. Or at least leave the house. That's what I get for only doing upper body when I work out. A strong back is essential to good health.
A short workweek ahead. In a nod to September 11th, Hearst is giving us both July 4 and 5 off. So it's a three-day workweek and a four day weekend... all after a one-day workweek this week. I could get used to this.|
