It's really pretty obscene how much medicine you can get when you're covered by a halfway decent prescription drug plan. I now have in my possession 120 Lomotils, 60 Cipros, 3 albuterol inhalers, and a six month supply of Lariam. Bought over the counter this would cost about $650. I paid $60.
These aren't drugs I need every day. The Lomotil and Cipro are for dysentery and the albuterol for occasional asthma. The Lariam's an anti-malarial I'll of course only need in malaria endemic areas. So I'll probably leave most of the medicine at home and get it shipped if I need a refill. That'll mean less to carry, but also keep me from getting wiped out if I lose something.
"Sounds sketchy but is apparently legit." With 25 days to go, it's getting very interesting. When Terry and Mike had that many days left I remember thinking how lucky they were that they were almost gone. Now for me 25 days still sounds like kind of a long time. But it'll pass quickly I'm sure.
The driveaway.com thing looks more interesting all the time. These are the guys who move people's cars by hiring travelers who are going that way anyway. Sounds sketchy but is apparently legit. They have a ton of cars right now going from the east coast to the west. The only problem is that you can't book a car till three days before you take it.
But if I could find one on the east coast somewhere I could take a bus to wherever it is, pick it up and have a ride clear across the country. And for the price of gas! Beats the hell out of Greyhound any day.
My friend Mark from Peoria called me the other day to tell me about a trip he's taking with his dad. They're circumnavigating the country by Amtrak. They're a couple of train nuts who've planned this for years. He's even keeping an online journal with photos and everything. Check it out at outspoking.com/amtrak.|
