White Collar Vagabond
Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
Sunday October 27, 2002

Why is it that I'm happiest when everything in my life is changing? It's something about the sense of anticipation in the last few weeks living in a city... and the sense of exploration in the first few months in a new one. Every time I move I think I want to really settle in this time. Not necessarily spend a long time here, but actually unpack all the boxes, buy some real furniture, and pretend to be more than a white collar vagabond.

(Actually that's one thing that started me on this trip to start with. Two years ago I was thinking of buying an $800 couch when all of a sudden I asked myself what the hell I was doing. Less than a week later the beginnings of a plan for this trip were in my head.)

"I have a slight feeling of contentment."
As I write this, my closets are mostly empty. The curtains are off the windows. Bookshelves are empty. Most of the framed stuff is off the walls (what little of it there was). And I have a slight feeling of contentment and excitement I only get when I'm packing up.

I'm about to head to the airport to pick up my friend Stephanie from work. She was kind enough to let me borrow her car while she vacationed in Seattle. (She was there when cops dug up the sniper suspect's target stump.) So I was able to get a few things done this weekend like pick up moving boxes and buy mini-cd's for my digital camera. She says it works out well for her because she doesn't pay for airport parking, but I think I got the good end of this one. Thanks, Steph.

The downstairs neighbors finished moving in today. And I found out the woman who's renting my apartment is actually gonna move in Friday. We'll just miss each other by hours.

And by the way... the first person to spot the misspelling among the cities behind the logo at the top gets a postcard or something.
